Barcelona the Ever Changing City

Thursday, January 29th, 2009

On reading the title of this article, you’ll probably think I’ve gone crazy, but there literally one single word on its own to describe what happened on Tuesday 23rd of December in the Palau Sant Jordi, I imagine you’ve guessed what I’m talking about haven’t you? I think the title says it all if I’m not mistaken; “El Canto del Loco” and their new album “Personas”.

This Madrid band returned to Barcelona on the success of their first few concerts that took place here in the Catalonian capital and people were expecting something similar to their performance last time. However, what occurred here surpassed the concerts from the last time round, and not only that, but any standard that had been set by previous pop-rock groups that have played in the past in our city was taken to another level.

The show was a big success, with the Palau completely full and I have to mention that it certainly is not easy to fill el Palau, given that there are 24,000 seats, this certainly highlights the size of the Olympic stadium inaugurated for the Olympics in 1992. The band is reported to have stayed in apartments in barcelona in the prestigious district of Eixample.

It isn’t difficult to envisage their success due to the fact that they are one of the most well known and popular bands in this country, having won numerous prizes this year (5 prizes and 40 first prizes), obviously proving their true talent in the field. The band offered one of its most prized performances, lasting more than two hours on the stage. They played favourites such as “people”, “one million scars”, “you are the luck of my life” and “kisses”… it was a great assortment of themes from their new album together with classic themes which have already been a great success in their concerts.

Since their last two concerts to promote their tour “personas 2008” they are promoting their new and unique film/documentary about the group’s experiences, which will be released on the second of January and will only be on show in the cinemas of Barcelona, including: “La Maquinista” (near to many apartments barcelona) and “Heron City” until 11th of January.

In 2009 their principal objective is to break into the American market, which they know will be different and a big challenge, but they say that they are prepared for anything.
